Global Education & Skills Form 2018 - Stark Choices

The Brief

In March 2018, the 6th edition of the Global Education & Skills Forum (GESF) asked “How do we Prepare Young People for the World of 2030 and Beyond”. To further explore the types of jobs that students of today will be undertaking in 2030 and the kind of skills they might need to be equipped with, the Varkey Foundation commissioned Superflux to design a physical installation at GESF that would create 2 distinct impressions of the possible future – dystopian and utopian. This futuristic installation was called ‘Stark Choices’ and would be designed as an experiential zone for delegates to walk-thru and come away with their reflections on the future that lies ahead. By February 2018, following a design period of 5 months, VF commissioned George & Burnell to work with Superflux on producing the physical installation as per designed specs.

  • Briefing Superflux on the venue and temporary structure for the event
  • Procurement of raw materials and technology as per specs
  • Preparation of workshop drawings based on architectural designs
  • Feasibility study on designs and advise on alternatives
  • Offsite simulations and tests on set and technology components
  • Complete management of onsite build and production logistics
  • Sourcing of actors, performers and hosts

This was a unique delivery requirement given that there was a limited timeline of 3 weeks that George & Burnell undertook in order to handover this installation. This was in parallel to the complete production and delivery of all other areas at GESF 2018.
