The Brief
In addition to supplying décor and design for Jumeirah Beach Hotel’s New Year Eve’s Gala celebrations, George & Burnell were additionally to provide a comprehensive entertainment solution that would be designed to carry the theme of the event throughout the evening.
In keeping with the event’s overarching theme of ‘Underwater Wonder’, all live entertainment artists were to be in line with this – keeping style, genre and costumes in this foray.

The Approach
George & Burnell worked with Scarlett Entertainment to provide a bespoke and dynamic production that featured distinct offerings and acts throughout the evening that included custom-made costumes, thematic make-up and installation and safety measurements as well as on-event coordination and logistics.
As the production featured an aerial act that would hang from the roof of the gala tent, technical meetings, production planning and safety rehearsals were an extensive part of the planning procedure.
The program was designed to be spread strategically throughout specific touchpoints so that the entertainment would offer pockets of surprise and live action for the New Year’s Eve festivities. Beginning with guest arrival in the hotel lobby, roaming underwater hostesses met guests for a mix and mingle and photo opportunities, featuring specially fabricated LED jellyfish and coral girl costumes, followed by greetings with a ‘Queen of the Ocean’ and a bubble performer at the entrance roundabout. A martini glass performer dazzled guests on the pathway before guests were transported into wonder with a live aerial performance against the backdrop of the ocean-themed gala tent. The program culminated with a ‘Water Drops’ dance and mingle performance by themed hostesses with LED umbrellas just before midnight.
In addition to the production, a live glitter face art station was provided with Glitterbox to include make-up artists, accessories and themed underwater embellishments and customized “Mermaid Makeover” make up with themed jewels and glitter.
